Breaking news live updates: President Trump will host Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman with state-level honours and plans for major defence deals, marking the prince’s first US trip since Jamal Khashoggi’s 2018 murder.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is set to receive an opulent reception from US President Donald Trump on Tuesday, marking his first trip to the United States since the 2018 killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Trump plans to honour him with a flypast, cannon salute, and a formal banquet—an honour typically reserved for heads of state, even though the prince is only the kingdom’s de facto leader.

The US president has prioritised strengthening relations with the oil-rich Gulf nation and said on Monday that he intends to proceed with selling F-35 stealth aircraft to Saudi Arabia, despite objections from Israel.
