FBI and US Attorney’s Office close investigation into Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno

Federal investigations into Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno on allegations of money laundering and misappropriation of funds have been closed.According to documents shared by Marceno’s lawyer, the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) closed the investigation on Monday.Gulf Coast News first reported on the accusations surrounding the sheriff in September 2024. Marceno was accused of funneling taxpayer dollars from the department to his family members.Marceno issued the following statement regarding the closing of the investigations:”I believe in the system. The FBI and the US Attorney’s Office investigated and conducted independent investigations. They have found no wrongdoing. Federal investigations into Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno on allegations of money laundering and misappropriation of funds have been closed.
According to documents shared by Marceno’s lawyer, the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) closed the investigation on Monday.
Gulf Coast News first reported on the accusations surrounding the sheriff in September 2024. Marceno was accused of funneling taxpayer dollars from the department to his family members.
Marceno issued the following statement in regards to the closing of the investigations:
“I believe in the system. The FBI and the US Attorney’s Office investigated and conducted independent investigations. They have found no wrongdoing. It is clear that from the beginning these were politically motivated allegations and completely false.
