— Two young teens were rescued Tuesday afternoon after they fell through the ice on Straight Lake at Osage, according to a news release from the Becker County Sheriff’s Office.
The juveniles, ages 13 and 14, were trying to ice fish, and were both floating inside an Otter Sled they had been sitting in while trying to move across the frozen lake, when they fell through the ice, according to the news release. An Otter Sled is commonly used to slide ice fishing gear across a frozen lake.
The Minnesota DNR was first to arrive on scene and was able to break through the ice at the Straight Lake public access and launch a boat. A DNR conservation officer and a Hubbard County deputy were able to drive the boat and break ice out to the juveniles.
Once they got to them, they were able to get them into the boat and return them to shore. The juveniles were not injured and were checked by EMS, according to the news release.
The incident was reported at 2:51 p.m., and emergency personnel from the Becker County Sheriff’s Office, Becker County Dive Team, Carsonville Fire and Rescue, Detroit Lakes Fire Department, North Memorial Ambulance, Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office and the DNR all responded to the scene.
The Becker County Sheriff’s Office is advising everyone to stay off all area lakes at this time.
