This fall, the documentarians who gave us the exploits of Scranton’s Dunder Mifflin Paper Company are back with a look at another workplace.
“The Paper,” the sequel to Emmy-winning series “The Office,” unfolds at The Truth Teller, a struggling newspaper in Toledo, Ohio.
And now we have a premiere date for the show — Thursday, Sept. 4.
Four episodes will be streaming that day on Peacock.
Greg Daniels, who developed the British show “The Office” for American TV, is a creator, writer and executive producer of “The Paper” alongside Michael Koman (“Nathan For You”). Stephen Merchant and Ricky Gervais, the original creators of “The Office,” are also executive producers.
As we previously reported, the show features a returning face from “The Office.”
New Jersey actor Oscar Nuñez, who hails from Union City, is back as Oscar Martinez in “The Paper.” He was in the main cast of “The Office” from 2005 to 2013, for all nine seasons of the show.
Martinez, previously an accountant at Dunder Mifflin, had become a state senator in Pennsylvania by the end of the series. We’ll have to see what he’s up to in Ohio.
He joins a cast that includes Domhnall Gleeson (“Echo Valley”), Sabrina Impacciatore (“The White Lotus”), Chelsea Frei (“Poker Face”), Emmy winner Alex Edelman (“Just for Us”), Gbemisola Ikumelo (“A League of Their Own”), Melvin Gregg (“Snowfall”), Ramona Young (“Santa Clarita Diet”) and Tim Key (“The Witchfinder”).
Gleeson plays Ned Sampson, the publisher of The Truth Teller, who tries to save the newspaper as ad revenue plummets.
“The villain here is the internet and the ability to look at everybody’s news for free, and all the ad revenue going to Google,” Daniels previously told The Hollywood Reporter, explaining why the Midwestern newspaper is in such dire straits for anyone unfamiliar with the woes afflicting print media (and media in general).
Guest stars on “The Paper” include Pulitzer Prize and Tony-winning playwright Tracy Letts (“Homeland”), Molly Ephraim (“Perry Mason”), Nate Jackson (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”), Duane Shepard Sr. (“The Eric Andre Show”), Nancy Lenehan (“The Boys”), Mo Welch (“Corporate”), Eric Rahill (“Friendship”) and Allan Havey (“Billions”)
Two new episodes of “The Paper” will be released each Thursday through Sept. 25.
