The Philomath Lions Club’s 19th annual book sale returns to the rodeo grounds at Skirvin Park Thursday through Saturday, the organization announced.

The sale with thousands of books will run from noon-6 p.m. on July 24-25 and noon-4 p.m. on July 26.

The book sale has traditionally served as the Lions Club’s biggest fundraiser of the year and represents one of the larger sales in the region. The club’s president, Bruce Spediacci, leads the year-round coordination of book donations and then the organization’s members team up to put on the sale.

Proceeds are used to support the organization’s various local causes, including college textbook scholarships that are awarded to Philomath High School students each spring.

The PHS cross-country program provides support by helping with the sale’s setup as coaches and athletes carry hundreds of boxes from flatbed trucks to designated tables. The club donates funds to the team to help pay for bus transportation to alternative training locations.

Books are typically priced from 75 cents to $2 and for those looking for even better deals, Saturday’s session features the $4 per bag sale (the Lions Club provides a paper grocery bag). Special books are priced individually and offered at half price on the final day.

Organizers said that only books in good to like-new conditions are kept for the sale. Former library books are not included.
