Cake burglar apprehended

Dig deeper:

Abeeb Hussain, 33, was seen on CCTV footage breaking into a home in Peterborough in the United Kingdom on July 26.

The footage showed Hussain smashing his way into the home from the backyard patio and stealing a Samsung mobile phone. Before leaving, he cut himself a slice of cake in the kitchen and ate it, according to a news release from the Cambridgeshire Constabulary.

In addition to the CCTV footage, investigators were able to link Hussain to the crimes after they found a cigarette butt he left outside the property which had his DNA on it.

What they’re saying:

“Hussain’s audacity to help himself to a slice of cake during a burglary is mind-boggling,” police said.

The backstory:

Hussain, who also goes by Dillon Currie, broke into another property that same night and stole steaks and other grocery items.

On July 27, he broke into another home and stole a 50-inch television, a gold-colored copy of the Quran and a selection of kitchen knives.

When he was arrested on August 1, Hussain was actually carrying the stolen Quran, police said.
