The View welcomed Wicked: For Good actress Cynthia Erivo to the show for an interview.Tears flowed after the show played an emotional clip involving the titular song “For Good.””I’m even crying. That’s beautiful,” Sunny Hostin said, wiping away tears.

Cynthia Erivo followed the Yellow Brick Road of her dreams all the way to a starring role in the Wicked film series — and the gravity of the moment fully hit her and The View cohosts during a Friday morning interview.

As the actress appeared on the talk show to promote her final turn as Elphaba Thropp opposite Ariana Grande‘s Glinda in the new Broadway adaptation Wicked: For Good, she and the cohosts melted into a pool of tears, just like her Wicked witch character.

“You have one of the most incredible voices ever,” Sara Haines told the three-time Oscar nominee. “Obviously, so many people look up to you. You recently got to surprise your choir at your formal school, and you sang with them.”

The show then cued up a video showing the star singing with a youth choir, with the students crying as the actress harmonized with them during a performance of “For Good” from the Broadway musical and, later, the blockbuster film fronted by Grande and Erivo.

“Because I knew you, I have been changed for good,” the group sang, with the teens openly sobbing as Erivo performed along with them.

The View audience clapped over the moment, with the camera showing a teary-eyed Alyssa Farah Griffin, Sunny Hostin, and Haines back at the Hot Topics table.

“I’m even crying. That’s beautiful,” Hostin said, wiping tears away from her eyes through the segment.

A visibly emotional Erivo also called the moment “so beautiful,” and attempted to fight her own tears as she paused to note, “I wasn’t going to do this!”

“That day meant a lot. I hadn’t been back to school in 20 years, so to walk into that room and see all those kids who have their dreams ahead of them, it just reminded me that it’s a good thing to keep reminding them that those things are possible,” the 38-year-old said. “Because I really was that kid in that uniform in that room singing those songs, hoping that one day I’d get to do what I’m doing now.”

Now, Erivo has three Academy Award nominations to her name, including one for Best Actress for her role as Elphaba in 2024’s first Wicked film.

Speaking about the sequel, Wicked: For Good, director Jon M. Chu told Entertainment Weekly in an interview earlier this year that his team added new original songs to enhance a story that most audiences feel they already know very well.

“They do what timeless stories do,” he said in September. “They ask us elemental questions of being human, not just the great parts — the celebratory, joyful parts of being human — but the scary, dark parts that test us. Everybody thinks it’s about this time, and yet it’s about all time. We are a little bit good and we all are a little bit wicked, and how do we navigate that?”

The View airs weekdays on ABC. Wicked: For Good is now playing in theaters nationwide.
