Trussville man charged in connection to August homicide

ALL RIGHT JASON, THANKS. SOME BREAKING NEWS TO REPORT. RIGHT NOW A TRUSSVILLE MAN HAS BEEN ARRESTED FOR MURDER IN THE CENTRAL PRATT COMMUNITY. THE SHOOTING HAPPENED BACK AT THE END OF AUGUST, BUT BIRMINGHAM POLICE HAVE JUST ANNOUNCED THIS ARREST. MICHAEL HIGDON IS FOLLOWING IT FROM THE BREAKING NEWS DESK. BIRMINGHAM POLICE WERE CALLED TO A HOME ALONG SIXTH LANE IN THE CENTRAL PRATT NEIGHBORHOOD JUST AFTER 10 P.M. ON AUGUST 29TH, AND WHEN THEY GOT THERE, THEY FOUND ROBERT MITCHELL, WHO HAD BEEN SHOT. HE WAS LYING IN THE GRASSY AREA NEXT TO A HOME IN THAT AREA. WELL, THIS MAN, BRIAN ALEXANDER SMITH, HAS NOW BEEN CHARGED WITH MITCHELL’S MURDER. DETAILS ARE STILL LIMITED AS TO WHAT HAPPENED THAT LED UP TO THE SHOOTING, OR IF THE TWO ACTUALLY KNEW ONE ANOTHER, OR IF IT WAS RANDOM. SMITH WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY WITHOUT INCIDENT TODAY. BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —

A Trussville man has been arrested in connection to a homicide in Birmingham’s Central Pratt neighborhood.

Birmingham police said Brian Smith, 30, was taken into custody and charged with murder in connection to the shooting death of Robert Mitchell on Sixth Lane in late August.

Police said they arrested Smith in the Fountain Heights area on First Avenue North.

He has been taken to the Jefferson County Jail and is being held without bond.
