Liza Minnelli’s half-sister, Lorna Luft, gave fans a rare update on the music legend’s health since she began leading a more secluded life.
The “Cabaret” hitmaker has been dealing with health issues for years, which forced her to step back from the spotlight.
Despite this, Luft reassured fans that the Hollywood legend is doing well and is staying connected with loved ones.
“She’s great,” the 73-year-old singer and actress exclusively told E! News during the Red Diamond 95th Anniversary Gala in New York City.
Moreover, Luft added that the award-winning singer is currently in Los Angeles.
The Grease 2 star also revealed that she and her sister stay in frequent contact.
“We talk on the phone a lot, because I live back in New York. So, everything’s really, really—she’s great.”

The four-time Tony Award winner and Luft are both daughters of the late iconic actress Judy Garland, while Liza Minnelli’s father is the acclaimed director Vincente Minnelli.
Prior to the update, the “All That Jazz” singer’s last public appearance was in October when she attended the 2025 Dancers Against Cancer Gala to present the Icon of the Year award to Janet Jackson for her outstanding contributions to music and the entertainment scene.
At the time, the ‘60s icon skipped the red carpet but made a jaw-dropping entrance as she dazzled on stage in a massive velvet throne with jazz dancers performing around her.
Liza Minnelli even delivered a special message on Instagram for the pop icon whom she described as her “amazing friend.”
What Happened to Liza Minnelli?
In 2000, the Lucky Lady star was diagnosed with viral encephalitis, a serious and potentially fatal inflammation of the brain.
That same year, she was also found unconscious in her mansion in Fort Lauderdale with symptoms of paralysis, drooping facial muscles and slurred speech, conditions that can be caused by encephalitis.

Unfortunately, Liza Minnelli’s health continued to decline after she battled bronchial pneumonia in 2010 and a mystery medical condition in 2014.
Due to her various health issues over the years, she has had to cancel shows and limit her time in the spotlight.
In 2024, she opened up in a rare interview, discussing her health and dispelling misconceptions about her life.
“I have one piece of advice: Take care of your body ’cause you might live longer than you expect to,” she told Interview magazine for her cover story, adding, “I just keep replacing parts and moving forward. You just deal with it and be happy, and as Dick Van Dyke sang and taught to me, ‘Put on a Happy Face.’”
As for the public’s perception of her, the Honorary EGOT shared that the most negative stories about her are false.
“They read trash and tripe and don’t know that my life is really beautiful,” she said, noting that in reality, she lives a happy, secure and loving life with her loved ones.
