Newton County — A Newton County Sheriff’s Office investigation led to a Saturday night raid of an alleged dogfighting ring in the Call community and the arrest of more than 40 people, according to information Newton County Sheriff Colton Havard provided to KFDM News.
Those charged with attending a dogfighting event face a Class A Misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in jail and/or a fine of up to $4,000.
Sheriff Colton Havard says the raid is the result of an ongoing investigation and more arrests are possible. He says animal cruelty won’t be tolerated in Newton County. Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard told us he’s glad his department could assist.
