Martin Geissler, Laura Maciver and Phil Goodlad are the voices of Radio Scotland Breakfast
BBC Scotland’s new flagship breakfast news programme has hit the airwaves.
Radio Scotland Breakfast replaces Good Morning Scotland, which started the station’s day for 51 years and finished on Friday.
Presented by Laura Maciver and Martin Geissler, the new programme airs from 06:00 to 09:00 on weekdays, with Phil Goodlad on the sports desk.
BBC Scotland said the show would be “pacy, informal, and informative” and would focus on “the stories that matter to the audience across every part of Scotland”.
Chris Hamilton, former Unite union rep for Grangemouth, was the first guest to appear on the new programme.
He discussed the future of the oil refinery – which closed in April – as a green energy hub.
The programme also included analysis of the US draft plan to end Russia’s war in Ukraine and a preview of Wednesday’s Budget.
Radio Scotland Breakfast later heard about plans for the closure-threatened chemical plant at Mossmorran when it was joined by Scottish Secretary Douglas Alexander.
The launch of the new programme comes as part of a suite of changes across BBC Scotland news and current affairs output on television and radio.

Gary Robertson is becoming the voice and face of weekend news programmes including The Sunday Show
Good Morning Scotland presenters Laura Maxwell and Gary Robertson have moved across to other programmes.
Robertson is replacing Geissler as the presenter of The Sunday Show on BBC One Scotland and BBC Radio Scotland as well as the hour-long radio news programme on Saturdays.
Maxwell moves to BBC Radio Scotland’s early evening news show Drivetime, where she will share the single presenting duties with Fiona Stalker across the week.
She will also present editions of Lunchtime Live.
Speaking when news of the new breakfast programme was announced in October, head of news and current affairs Howard Simpson said: “The launch of Breakfast marks a new chapter in the history of BBC Radio Scotland’s morning news service for audiences.
“BBC Scotland News is more important than ever now in the disinformation age and the programme will have the journalistic rigour and depth our listeners have come to expect, with Martin and Laura bringing their distinctive energy, insight, and warmth.”
The changes come two months after the debut of the new Saturday Show on Radio Scotland, which is presented by Amy Irons and Steven Mill.
