The Detroit Red Wings never really had a chance to talk to the top NHL free agents. Those who didn’t re-sign with their previous teams had already decided where they wanted to go. It wasn’t Detroit.
But maybe the trade market is a different story.
Sportsnet.ca’s Ryan Dixon recently wrote a speculative piece about seven possible destinations for Dallas Stars forward Jason Robertson. Lo and Behold, the Red Wings are on that list.
The reason the Red Wings are on that list is the Stars, if they trade Robertson, and that is not a given, they will be looking for prospects and draft pick. GM Steve Yzerman has those to give. He is willing to move picks in the right deal. Robertson’s scoring history makes this the right deal. d
