Angel Reese’s former Chicago Sky teammate, Kysre Gondrezick, did not hesitate to back Caitlin Clark in a hypothetical duel. Gondrezick appeared on Monday’s episode of Carmelo Anthony’s “7 PM in Brooklyn” podcast.
Co-host Kazeem Famuyide presented the former Sky guard with a hypothetical 1v1 situation pitting Caitlin Clark against WNBA legend Sue Bird. Gondrezick answered without a thought:
“I’m taking Caitlin,” Gondrezick said.
She went on to explain her reason for picking Clark over Bird:
“The reason why I say Caitlin is that she is a scoring point guard. Sue has mastered being a facilitator and she makes her shots when it is important. But Caitlin’s confidence. She comes off as ‘I’m shooting first,’ I’m taking her because of her scoring mentality, it comes instinctively for her.”
While Clark is undoubtedly one of the most exciting players in the WNBA, not many would pick her in a battle against four-time champion Sue Bird, let alone a teammate of her rival, Angel Reese.
Bird was in the league for 19 seasons, spending her entire career with the Seattle Storm. She averaged 11.7 points, 2.5 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game. While Gondrezick snubbed Bird, she was quick to select Diana Taurasi when asked about a hypothetical duel between her and Clark.
