After his split with Under Armour, Stephen Curry is a sneaker-free agent, and the fans are eating it up. The Golden State Warriors star has been showing up in new kicks every day, causing fans to sit on the edge of their seats as they await a decision.

During the Warriors’ game on Monday, Curry stepped on the court in Sabrina Ionescu’s kicks — making it the first time he has played in Nike shoes since 2013. Of course, the four-time NBA champion has his own reasons for choosing the shoe.

Stephen Curry Shares Why He Chose to Wear Sabrina Ionescu’s Shoe

When Curry suited up against the Utah Jazz, he walked on the court in “Iones-Crew” Nike Sabrina 3s. Curry’s gesture went viral during the game, with fans cheering for the Warriors star for supporting Ionescu.

After the game, Curry spoke to the media about wearing a Nike shoe on the court. Interestingly, Curry revealed that he has some history with the New York Liberty star. Apparently, the Curry brand attempted to sign Ionescu, but ultimately lost her to Nike.

“We have a long history…she’s from the Bay. I was following her career. There was a time when she was coming out of school, I was trying to get her to Curry Brand. It’s hard to get an Oregon Duck to leave Nike,” Curry told the media. However, Curry admitted that he didn’t know Ionescu would be at the game.

“It was kind of a coincidence. I didn’t know she was going to be here today and I just had a pair of shoes. It was a great moment,” Curry concluded.

That being said, it wasn’t the only shoe Curry wore on Monday. Arriving in Utah, Curry first wore the “Flu Game” Air Jordan XIIs to honor Michael Jordan. With the then-viral Flu Game being played against Utah during the 1997 NBA Finals, this was the perfect tribute by Curry.

During the warmups, Curry switched over to “Last Shot” Air Jordan XIVs. While speaking of the Flu Game, Curry admitted that it was “cool understanding the history of the game”. He did, however, say the process of wearing new kicks was fun.

“So just kinda … Everybody should be on alert,” Curry revealed. “I’m calling everybody. Trying to get some good product but it’s just fun to, again, honor certain eras, moments in the game, current athletes who are doing great things and just having fun with it.”

Curry was with Under Armour for 12 years before ending their partnership in November. While the exact details of the split remain undisclosed, reports suggest it was due to issues surrounding sales and the brand’s inability to land Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark.

Curry, though, maintained that it was a mutual decision. Having said that, fans remain excited about Curry’s eventual decision, irrespective of the brand he picks.
