Bogdan Trineyev notched a significant milestone in his career, especially for a fourth-round pick. On Wednesday, the power forward received his first NHL call-up from the Washington Capitals after Nic Dowd was placed on injured reserve.

Dowd has missed the last four games due to an upper-body injury and will not take the ice against the Winnipeg Jets.

Trineyev, mentored by Aliaksei Protas at the start of his AHL career, has become one of the Hershey Bears’ best players, serving as a major contributor offensively and defensively. He is the first player off the bench for the penalty kill and also gets power-play time on the team’s second unit. He currently sits second on the team in points with 12 (6g, 6a) in 15 games. He rooms with Ilya Protas and Eriks Mateiko.

During his Hershey Bears career, Trineyev also helped create the chaos along the boards that led to Matt Strome’s 2024 Calder Cup-winning goal and led the team in points during the 2025 playoffs.

Hershey Bears’ head coach Derek King seemed to signal Trineyev would be NHL-bound at some point this season when asked what makes him such an effective player.

“He’s not overly great at anything, you know, like hands,” Hershey Bears head coach Derek King said to RMNB on Tuesday. “He does everything really well. And he’s the guy you trust. Every team needs guys like that. We’re fortunate enough to have him.”

Trineyev appears unlikely to make his NHL debut against the Jets since he did not participate in the Capitals’ morning skate. He was likely called up for insurance purposes, with the Capitals having no other reserve forwards available with Dowd out.

While Dowd is going on IR, his return to the lineup could be imminent. He first sat out in the Capitals’ 7-4 win over the Edmonton Oilers on November 19. The Caps can retroactively date Dowd’s placement on IR to the Edmonton game, allowing him to be activated as soon as Thursday for the team’s game against Toronto on Friday afternoon. Dowd spent extra time on the ice with the team’s scratches during the morning skate.
