AFTERNOON’S SHOWDOWN. KANSAS CITY’S NEWS LEADER THIS IS BREAKING NEWS FROM KMBC9. FIRST, WE WANT TO GET OUT TO THAT BREAKING NEWS. KANSAS CITY FIREFIGHTERS ARE BATTLING A HOUSE FIRE THIS MORNING ON THE CITY’S SOUTHEAST SIDE. KMBC9 RACHEL IS LIVE AT THAT SCENE, OLMSTEAD AND BANNISTER RACHEL. DONNA. SO MUCH DIFFERENT SCENE NOW WE’RE ACTUALLY SEEING SOME OF THESE POLICE OFFICERS FROM KCMO TAKING OUT THE CRIME SCENE TAPE. WE SAW ALL THESE FIRE TRUCKS, YOU KNOW, LEAVE THE SCENE. THAT WAS ABOUT JUST WITHIN THE LAST 5 TO 10 MINUTES. BUT THIS FIRE. HERE’S WHAT WE KNOW FROM THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. NO ONE WAS HOME. NO INJURIES. AND THE KANSAS CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED ON SCENE AROUND 330 THIS MORNING. IT WAS A ONE STORY HOUSE FIRE, AND THE DEPARTMENT TELLS US FIREFIGHTERS USED THREE DIFFERENT HOSE LINES INITIALLY FIGHTING THAT FIRE FROM INSIDE THE HOUSE. THEN THEY FOUND A BROKEN NATURAL GAS LINE AND POWER LINES DOWN IN THE BACK OF THE HOUSE AND EVENTUALLY EVACUATED. SO THEY MOVED TO THE OUTSIDE OF THE HOUSE TO FIGHT THAT FIRE WITH HOSES FROM ABOVE. THEY GOT RID OF THE LEFTOVER HOTSPOTS, AND UTILITY CREWS WERE ALSO OUT HERE ON SCENE TO FIX THAT. GAS AND POWER LINE SITUATION, AND THE FIREFIGHTERS BROUGHT EVERYTHING UNDER CONTROL AROUND 430 THIS MORNING, THE DEPARTMENT SAYS ONE FIREFIGHTER WAS BRIEFLY EVALUATED BY AN AMBULANCE ON SCENE, BUT WAS NOT SENT TO THE HOSPITAL. AND OBVIOUSLY THIS WAS A TOTAL LOSS SITUATION WITH THIS HOUSE. IT’S STILL STANDING, BUT THAT WHOLE ROOF WAS ON FIRE AND THERE WAS A PARTIAL COLLAPSE. OBVIOUSLY EARLIER THERE WERE ABOUT 35 FIREFIGHTERS OUT HERE, SEVERAL FIRE TRUCKS. AND OF COURSE, THE CAUSE OF THIS FIRE IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION. REPORTING LIVE, RACHEL RIPP, KMBC NINE NEWS. RACHEL, THANK YOU. AND OF COURSE, THAT IS A BREAKING NEWS STORY. WE’LL FOLLOW THIS MORNING AND YOU CAN
