For the fourth straight week, Notre Dame football’s AP Top 25 ranking remains unchanged. On Sunday, the Fighting Irish checked in as the No. 9 team in the Week 15 AP Poll. They closed out the regular season with a 10-2 record after beating Stanford 49-20 Saturday night on the West Coast.

That final showing also helped them maintain their No. 9 ranking in the US LBM Coaches Poll, also released Sunday. ND has held its spot in the coaching poll for four straight weeks.

Blue & Gold senior writer Eric Hansen likes the Irish better than most voters. In his official AP Poll ballot, Hansen listed ND as the No. 7 team in the country. In On3 college football insider Brett McMurphy’s ballot, he slotted Notre Dame three spots lower at No. 10.

The only team to leapfrog the Irish in the AP Poll since Week 12 is Oklahoma after it beat Alabama 23-21 on Nov. 15. The Sooners are the highest-ranked two-loss team in the Week AP Poll, in front of Notre Dame and then Alabama.

While the AP rankings do not officially determine whether the Irish will make the College Football Playoffs, they do serve as a key indicator of how the rest of the country views Marcus Freeman’s program. Notre Dame’s ranking in the CFP has replicated its AP ranking for the last four weeks.

If the updated CFP rankings resemble Sunday’s AP Poll, ND would hypothetically face Oklahoma on the road in a first-round CFP matchup. The CFP will update its rankings Tuesday at 7 p.m.
