The US Capitol Christmas tree, named “Silver Belle”, has been lit up during a ceremony on Tuesday.
The 53-foot (16.15 meters) red fir was hand-selected from the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, east of Lake Tahoe. It made a 3,000-mile journey from Nevada to Washington DC in November.
Speaking at the ceremony, House speaker Mike Johnson said that like the tree’s thousands of lights, the strength of the US is found “in the individual”.
