PORTLAND, Ore. — Dozens of advanced practice providers at Legacy Health, including nurse practitioners, physician associates, and clinical specialists, are on strike.

Workers authorized the strike back in October after failing to reach a contract that they say pays them fairly.

One trauma nurse says the APPs play a critical role in the healthcare system, and should be paid like it.

“It’s not enough for patients and providers to trust us. We need Legacy to recognize the importance of our work, and treat us with the same professionalism, care, and respect that we give our patients and colleagues, but that won’t happen without a fair contract,” a trauma physician, who did not provide their name, tells KATU News.

Legacy Health sent KATU a new statement on Tuesday night, saying:

While we remain committed to bargaining in good faith with the ONA, we are currently focused on the care of our patients and will continue to allocate our available resources to meet this goal. We deeply value our people and are committed to providing them with the resources and tools they need to do the important work they do each day and continue to grow and thrive in their health care careers.
