LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — A major milestone for healthcare in the Lynchburg region. Centra officially opened its new medical center on Langhorne Road.
This new medical center is bringing together specialists, testing and treatments all under one roof.
Centra says that will make care faster, more efficient and more accessible for you.
The five-story, 130,000 square foot medical center is now open.
Dr. Albert Backer says the goal is to create a central location where specialists can work side by side. “It’s really exciting. We’re delighted to be able to move into a facility that is designed to deliver state-of-the-art medicine. It’s much roomier than our offices are now, so we’re all looking forward to the upgrade,” Backer said.
Inside, the building houses multiple outpatient services – like neurology, pulmonology, endocrinology and rehabilitation.
You can also schedule on-site blood draws, CT scans, and therapy. All in one location.

Centra’s CEO, Richard Tugman, wants patients to feel safe and at home during what could already be a scary time.
“I want them to view this place as basically their home for healthcare. Where they can come to and be holistically treated, a one-stop shop, so to speak, that’s what I would like them to be able to experience,” Tugman said.
It also comes with a system to help you ditch the waiting room paperwork.
“It’s what we call our digital front door. So this is basically the experience our patients will receive in advance of coming into the facility to be able to do all the advance work, your HIPAA forms, your co-pays, and all that before they actually get here,” Tugman added.
Centra officials say the goal is to reduce wait times, shorten travel and make health care more convenient for the region’s growing population.
The new facility will serve 125,000 patients every year, and current patients are set to start phasing over starting Monday.
By December 22nd, all services will be fully operational.
This facility was designed with patient flow in mind and integrates space and technology. They’re calling it high-quality care you don’t have to drive hours for.
