A mystery is unfolding in Pierce Township after dozens of vultures were found dead on the campus of a school in Pierce Township, Ohio.The Pierce Township Fire Department shared the jarring photos with WLWT, showing dozens of dead vultures on and near St. Bernadette School’s athletic fields. It’s believed more than 70 vultures were found dead. It’s unclear what led to the incident, but Pierce Township Fire Chief Craig Wright told WLWT it’s likely due to some type of bird flu.Wright told WLWT the photos of the dead vultures were taken Monday but the birds are still there. He says they have reached out to ODNR but they have not been able to come collect the birds. Wright says people should avoid the area until ODNR can come collect the birds.Dennis Bauer lives across from the field and said the photos from the fire department left him stunned. “There’s an abandoned nursing home that we would drive by and all the vultures would be perched up on the structure of the nursing home for many years,” Bauer said.
