NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents are investigating the illegal shooting of a Louisiana black bear. The bear was found dead in Concordia Parish on Nov. 30.

Agents were notified of a dead bear off Blount Road on the Richard K. Yancy Wildlife Management Area and determined the adult male, weighing about 375 pounds, had been illegally shot.

A reward of up to $3,500 is being offered for information that leads to a conviction. The reward includes $2,500 from the Safari Club International Acadiana Chapter and up to $1,000 from Louisiana Operation Game Thief.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Louisiana Operation Game Thief hotline at 1-800-442-2511 or use LDWF’s tip411 program by texting “LADWF” and their tip to 847411, or by using the free “LADWF Tips” app. Both reporting options are monitored 24 hours a day, and informants can remain anonymous.
Taking a bear during a closed season carries a $900 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail. Civil restitution of $4,350 for the replacement value of the illegally taken bear will also be assessed.
