The United States Men’s National Team has a group. Today, the 2026 FIFA World Cup Draw took place today in Washington, DC, and the USMNT learned that they will face Paraguay, Australia, and the winner of UEFA Playoff C in the group stage.
The USA was placed into Pot 1 as a co-host, and it had already been pre-determined that they would be in Group D. The draw then sorted the rest of the Pot 1 teams into groups. The USMNT then found out who they would play in each of their group stage matches. Australia was drawn into Group D out of Pot 2, and the USMNT will face them in their second group stage match on June 19th at Lumen Field in Seattle. Out of Pot 3 came Paraguay, who the USMNT will play in their World Cup opener on June 12th at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. Finally, Pot 4 gave the United States a matchup against the winner of UEFA Playoff C – which will be either Türkiye, Slovakia, Romania, or Kosovo – in the final group stage match, which will again be at SoFi Stadium on June 25th.
In drawing Paraguay, Australia, and the UEFA Playoff C winner, the USMNT got what could be considered a fairly favorable draw. They avoided most of the stronger teams in each pot, but will have to wait until March to find out who they will face in their final group stage match.
