Celtic have been given a boost in their pursuit of reported target Mateusz Bogusz, with the midfielder now said to be hell-bent on a move from Cruz Azul.

The Poland international held transfer talks with the Hoops in the summer of 2024 over a potential £9million move, only for the Parkhead giants to sign Arne Engels for £11million instead.

Bogusz headed to Mexico from LAFC in the MLS – where he played against new boss Wilfried Nancy – earlier this year but reportedly wants out of the Mexico City-based club already. The 24-year-old has scored three goals in 38 matches for Cruz Azul but has sat on the bench as an unused substitute in the last three matches.

Reports from North America claim that the midfielder stormed down the tunnel following their Apertura play-off defeat to Tigres on Sunday while the rest of his teammates applauded their travelling support inside the stadium.

Elsewhere, CFR Cluj chairman Iuliu Mureșan has revealed the club would be willing to sell star striker Louis Munteanu for €10million (£8.7million).

The Romanian international has been linked with a whole host of teams in Europe and Celtic were said to have a £6.9million bid thrown out last summer.

Munteanu was on the scoresheet in the 1-1 draw with Universitatea Craiova on Sunday and Muresan was asked about the player’s future after the game.

Speaking to Digi Sport, he said: “I said from the beginning that the situation with Louis was mismanaged and he is affected. The important thing is for him to understand, to have an attitude.

“Only then can he transfer to a higher salary for himself and for a higher amount for the club.

“What if we had an offer of 10 million? Yes, I would say it’s good for him to leave, but the owner makes the decision. Under the patronage of NeluÈ›u Varga, the club won five titles. The club performed through its investments, we must thank him for that.

“CFR is missing money from tickets, marketing, promotional items. Compared to an outside club, there is a lot missing.”
