BRISTOL, Va. (WCYB) — Our sister station Fox 39 is about to reach more viewers.

We are doing this by changing the channel where you can find it.

Here is what you need to know.

“Our Fox 39 broadcast signal will be shifting from Channel 39.1 to Channel 5.3,” WCYB Chief Engineer Doug Chaulk said.

Channel 5.3 is a WCYB subchannel. WCYB will remain on 5.1.

News 5’s Rebecca Pepin asked WCYB Chief Engineer Doug Chaulk what this means for you.

“The Dish and DIRECTV people and cable subscribers won’t see a change,” Chaulk said. “It’s just the over the air viewers, and in order to see the change, they’ll probably have to re scan their TVs.”

Since every TV is different, we recommend that you do a quick online search on how to re-scan the channels for your make and model.

Meanwhile, we’re excited to be expanding our Fox viewership.

“Well, it’s really happening because the the antenna that Channel 5 broadcasts on can reach a much larger over the air population,” Chaulk said. “So once we do this on our Channel 5 transmitter, you’ll also be able to see the NBC, CW, and now, you’ll be able to see the Fox channel on there as well.

To help get you used to the change we’ll simulcast Fox on 39.1 and 5.3 through mid January when Fox will fully make the transition to Channel 5.3.
