Nebraska freshman running back Jamarion Parker plans to enter the transfer portal when it opens in January, per a source.
Parker, a former three-star running back from St. Louis, never appeared in a game during his time in Lincoln.
Parker had 168 carries for 1,730 yards and 24 touchdowns as a first-team all-state selection his senior year. That followed a junior campaign where the 5-foot-11, 200-pounder rushed for 1,644 yards and 22 touchdowns on 147 carries and caught 16 passes for 267 yards and four scores.
Parker had been limited this fall as he redshirted, but head coach Matt Rhule said last week the running back was making progress.
“He’s putting on a lot of muscle,” Rhule said. “He just needs some time but Jamarion is a good young prospect that we’re excited about.”
The NCAA changed the college football calendar this year, eliminating the spring transfer portal window and moving the winter window from December to January. So while the portal doesn’t officially open until Jan. 2 (and runs two weeks through January 16), that won’t stop players from announcing their intentions to enter it between now and then. Players still cannot have official contact with other programs or take visits until they are officially in the transfer database.
