Everton will need to empty their coffers to seal the transfer of Douglas Luiz this summer.

It has been widely reported that the Toffees are interested in poaching central midfielder Luiz from Juventus.

Due to injuries and games spent on the bench, the Brazilian made just 27 appearances for the Italian side last season. As a result, he could be tempted to leave if the right club came along.

But Everton will need to spend a decent sum to both get him to the club and prolong his stay.

As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio (24 July), Juventus are expected to take action after Luiz missed training, which will come as a boost to Everton as they pursue the midfielder.

The report states that Luiz did not explain his absence; he simply did not turn up on Thursday. As such, the Italian club could part ways with him for the right sum, and the Toffees have the means to make it happen.

According to Capology (24 July), Luiz is currently earning £154,700,000-per-week, with his contract set to run until 2029. This means that he makes around £8million per year and could bank just over £32m between now and the end of his deal.

It has been reported that Juventus want around £35m for the Brazilian, with the Old Lady expected to accept a loan deal with an obligation to make the transfer permanent.

Thus, Everton would need to pay at least £43m to sign Luiz and cover his salary for one season, considering his wages remain the same and the Toffees agree to Juventus’ loan terms.

In the current football market, Luiz for around £35m would be a steal this summer.

While injuries prevented him from finding his best and most consistent form at Juventus last season, he could be dangerous under David Moyes.

He is known as a versatile central midfielder who is tidy on the ball and can adapt to different roles and circumstances on the pitch. His technical proficiency and passing range would help Everton when building out from the back.

As well as this, his polished final ball would allow the Toffees to create chances when in transition and possession. Therefore, his versatility, vision and quick feet are all reasons why Everton should sign him this summer.
