EXCLUSIVE: Hulu and A24 have tapped three more for series regular roles in their new drama series, The Spot: Macon Blair (Blue Ruin), Daveed Diggs (Hamilton), and Michael Patrick Thornton (Waiting for Godot).

Character details are under wraps. As previously announced, Claire Danes and Ewan McGregor lead the series from writer, showrunner and EP Ed Solomon (Full Circle). The show follows a successful surgeon (Danes) who, along with her schoolteacher husband (McGregor), begins to suspect that she may be responsible for a child’s hit-and-run death. The couple’s quest for truth spirals into a web of mounting suspicion and dark secrets, testing their resolve and their relationship as they confront the possibility of hidden guilt and betrayal.

A24 is lead studio on The Spot, a co-production with 20th Television for release on Hulu. Exec producers include Solomon, Robin Sweet and Ariel Kleiman, who will also direct.

Danes took over the lead role from Kate Winslet, who was originally attached to star and exec produce when the project landed at Hulu with a straight-to-series order, in a highly competitive situation, in August 2024. Winslet departed for creative reasons this past June, with Danes being approached to take over her part in the following weeks.

Known for starring roles in films like Blue Ruin and Green Room, as well as directorial efforts including I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore and the recent The Toxic Avenger, Blair has most recently been seen recurring on FX’s The Lowdown from Sterlin Harjo. He is repped by CAA and Bradley Garrett at Garrett Legal.

Seen starring in everything from Hamilton to Blindspotting and Wonder, Diggs is a Tony- and Grammy-Award winner whose recent credits include TNT’s Snowpiercer and the Academy Award-nominated Nickel Boys from RaMell Ross. His upcoming slate includes Gregg Araki’s I Want Your Sex, Katie Aselton’s Their Town, and Searchlight/Hulu’s forthcoming In the Blink of an Eye from Pixar vet Andrew Stanton. He is repped by CAA, Brookside Artist Management and Johnson Shapiro Slewett Kole.

Most recently seen on shows like Black Rabbit and The Good Doctor, Thornton recently appeared on Broadway opposite Jessica Chastain in the Tony-nominated production of A Doll’s House, directed by Jamie Lloyd and adapted by Amy Herzog. He also worked with Lloyd on Broadway’s Waiting for Godot starring Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter. Among other projects, Thornton’s upcoming slate includes Apple’s Being Heumann and Jessica Chastain series The Savant, examining efforts to stop violent acts emerging from online hate groups, which pushed its release in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination and has not yet gotten a new premiere date. The actor is repped by Innovative Artists and Principal Entertainment LA.
