Should we blame the NBA Cup for the Boston Celtics looking rusty this week? The Celtics morphed from world-beaters when they were winning 10 of their last 12 games to a mediocre ball club in their last two contests, a road loss to the Milwaukee Bucks and a home defeat at the hands of the Detroit Pistons.
The main difference between the first chunk of games and the most recent? A breakneck pace of games to create space for the NBA Cup to play out around the league in the first chunk of games, and huge, multi-day gaps between contests for the Celtics, once again to facilitate Cup play.
