LSU redshirt freshman quarterback Colin Hurley is expected to enter the transfer portal, per Pete Nakos of On3.
The news drops a few weeks after Lane Kiffin left Ole Miss to be LSU’s head coach. LSU has been connected to a few big names, including Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt (per Nakos).
Kiffin also reposted an announcement that Florida quarterback DJ Lagway was planning to enter the transfer portal.
Hurley was a 4-star quarterback out of the class of 2024 after reclassifying from the class of 2025. The 247Sports Composite list placed Hurley 25th among all signal-callers in his class.
Hurley starred at Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville, Florida before going to LSU.
Per Nakos, Hurley enrolled at LSU at the age of 16. He also won two state titles in high school and threw for over 5,000 yards.
Hurley has four years of eligibility remaining and should have interest. He had plenty of it out of high school, with Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Miami, Ohio State “and a handful of others” reaching out when he was looking for a college team, per Nakos.
As for LSU, the only quarterback LSU has on scholarship right now is Michael Van Buren, who transferred from Mississippi State. He played behind Garrett Nussmeier before the QB1 was benched. Van Buren completed 62.4 percent of his passes for 743 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions while rushing for 105 yards and one touchdown.
However, one can guess the Kiffin-led LSU program will be going after a quarterback in the transfer portal, which opens on Jan. 2.
