Penn State safety King Mack didn’t hold back when expressing his feelings on someone leaking the audio of a private meeting between football players and PSU athletic director Pat Kraft.
The audio featured Kraft expressing his honest and blunt feelings on rival programs as well as some thoughts on Penn State and the football program.
Kraft has since apologized for his comments.
It’s been a tumultuous year for Penn State football, which started the season ranked second in the Associated Press preseason poll but ended up going 6-6 overall. PSU fired head coach James Franklin after six weeks (3-3), and the team ended up losing six in a row overall following a 3-0 start.
However, interim head coach Terry Smith righted the ship down the stretch, and Penn State won three straight en route to an upcoming Pinstripe Bowl appearance against Clemson.
PSU has since hired former Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell to run the program. Smith will stay on as associate head coach and lead assistant.
As for Mack, it’s clear he feels leadership was lacking within the program this year.
Mack did tell reporters he isn’t sure he will return. However, Mack also seems optimistic about the future of the program with Campbell and Smith leading the way.
For now, Penn State looks to finish the season with a winning record. The Pinstripe Bowl will take place in New York’s Yankee Stadium on Dec. 27, with kickoff against Clemson set for noon ET.
