Williamsport, Pa. — With the release of the official 2026 budget for Lycoming County this morning came the announcement that taxes will be raised for the first time in eight years.
The adopted budget — after its proposed version was available to the public for 20 days — reflects a half-mill increase from 6.5 mills to 7 mills, Director of Financial Management Mya Toon said at this morning’s commissioners’ meeting.
Commissioner Scott Metzger said he was proud of the county’s financial team, and that “everything’s gone up in price, and with the rising costs, the fund balance can only cover things for so long.”
Metzger added that several nearby counties have raised their taxes this year, including Bradford, Montour, and Dauphin counties, which have respectively raised theirs by 1.64 mills, 1 mill, and 0.817 mills.
This is a breaking story. More details will be released at a later time.
