They may be among the most popular festive films of all time, but the Home Alone franchise isn’t immune to some mistakes. With the beloved series set to surge in popularity once again, one fan has spotted a blunder that could “ruin” Christmas.

The franchise consists of six instalments in total, though the first two – 1990’s Home Alone and 1992’s Home Alone 2: Lost in New York – are generally considered to be the foremost entries.

Though Kevin McCallister’s (Macauley Culkin) torment of Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern) has thrilled several generations, one user on TikTok pointed out several mistakes in the original film.

One blunder sees a secondary character mouth dialogue from the screenplay while their opposing character says the line, while another is a shot where wheels can be seen on the bottom of a sled.

Along with some other continuity errors, these mistakes are merely trivial in the grand scheme of filmmaking, with several fans heading to the comment section to voice their opinion as one quipped: “Christmas ruined. Thanks man.”

“A storyline error gets me – in the original he is 8 years old, and in Home Alone 2 he’s 10, but they constantly refer to him being left home alone ‘last year’ 😬” asked another user, who spotted that the dates don’t align across the first two films.

“It always bothered me that the night Kevin hosts the party with all the mannequins and life-sized cutouts, Harry and Marv already know everyone on the block is gone and they’ve already been inside their houses,” added another viewer.

“So they know the entire block is empty. Therefore where are all the cars that would surely line the street if that many people were actually partying at Kevin’s place??” they continued – though, of course, it doesn’t factor in Harry and Marv being a bit dim!

While the most recent film in the franchise, Home Sweet Home Alone, was released in 2021, Culkin recently shared that he had an idea for a legacy sequel to the first two films, and said he would be open to reprising his role as Kevin.

“I’m either a widower or a divorcee,” he began. “I’m raising a kid. I’m working really hard and I’m not really paying enough attention and the kid is kind of getting miffed at me and then I get locked out. [Kevin’s son] won’t let me in… and he’s the one setting traps for me.”
