NEW YORK — OCWA is urging residents of certain Central New York towns to conserve water after a significant break in a large-diameter transmission line, which carries potable water from Lake Ontario through the Clay pump station to fill area reservoirs. The transmission break is located northeast of the intersection of Taft Road and Northern Boulevard in the town of Cicero.

Residents of the towns of Manlius (including Minoa and Fayetteville), Pompey, DeWitt, Sullivan (including Chittenango), Lenox (including Canastota) and Lincoln are all asked cut down on their water usage.

Neighbors should be prepared for periodic reductions in water flow and pressure. While repairs are already underway, it could take as long as a week to restore regular service. This is because of shifting soil conditions and the level of difficulty of the repair.

In the meantime, OCWA recommends the following practices:

Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth, shaving, or washing dishes in the sink.Limit the use of dishwashers and clothes washers whenever possible.Use water-saving settings on your washing machine.Take shorter showers.Reuse water when possible.Comment with Bubbles
