ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A shooting Friday night sent three Rochester police officers and another man to the hospital.
Police said the officers were responding to a call around 10 p.m. about a domestic situation, where a woman’s ex-boyfriend was trying to break into her home with a gun.
Once police arrived at the scene on Chili Avenue near Thurston Road, the suspect opened fire, hitting two officers as well as the man who had called the police, authorities said. The armed suspect then took off on foot, according to police.
A third officer chased the man to the corner of Arnett Boulevard and Thurston, where police said there was an exchange of gunfire.
Both the officer and the suspect were hit, and police said the suspect was killed.
All three officers and the injured caller were taken to Strong Hospital, where they were all listed in stable condition. One of the officers had sustained serious injuries, according to authorities, and another has since been discharged from the hospital.
Rochester police said the Monroe County District Attorney’s office, the New York Attorney General’s office and the department’s Professional Standards Section are all conducting separate investigations.
