Another crucial coaching hire has been made by Collin Klein and Kansas State. Texas A&M Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Backs Coach Jordan Peterson will be the next DC in Manhattan.

The news comes on the heels of former defensive coordinator Joe Klanderman being hired at Baylor for the same role. Peterson’s departure from Texas A&M also means they have lost both defensive coordinators over the last week, as the other Texas A&M Defensive Coordinator, Jay Bateman, is also leaving the Aggies to be on Will Stein’s staff at Kentucky.

As for the new K-State coordinator, Peterson, he is a Texas native who played corner at Texas A&M from 2006 to 2009. He started his coaching career as a GA at his almam mater, before making stops at Fresno State, New Mexico, Kansas and back to A&M.

At Kansas, Peterson was in charge of the passing game and defensive backs. In his time in Lawrence, he oversaw four All-Big 12 picks, including Mello Dotson and Cobee Bryant in 2024.

This season, Texas A&M has the fourth-best pass defense in the SEC. The Aggies have allowed just over 182 yards per game through the air. Conversely, K-State ranked 11th in the Big 12 this season, with over 222 yards per contest.

Peterson becomes the fifth official member of Klein’s coaching staff at Kansas State. Trey Scott was named general manager, Stanton Weber special teams coordinator, Buddy Wyatt the defensive line coach and Christian Ellsworth the quarterbacks coach.
