“After a lot of thought and conversation, I’ve decided that following our bowl game, I will be entering the transfer portal,” Noonan said in a statement on X. “I’m grateful for my time at Nebraska. The coaches, teammates, and fans have played a huge role in my development both on and off the field. I’ll always appreciate the relationships and lessons from these past years.

“I’m looking forward to finding a program where I can continue to develop and contribute to winning. Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way.”

The 6-foot-4, 245-pound Noonan saw action in six games over the last two seasons. He finished his time at NU with two total tackles, one tackle for loss and one fumble recovery.

Noonan suffered a knee injury as a true freshman in 2023, which seemingly set back his overall development. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Noonan is another Husker legacy who will leave the program

Earlier this week, we learned that quarterback Dylan Raiola plans to enter the transfer portal. He’s the son of former NU All-American and Rimington Award-winning offensive lineman Dominic Raiola.

Noonan is another legacy who will leave the Husker program.

Noonan’s father, Danny, was a three-year letterwinner for the Huskers, and as a senior in 1986, was a unanimous first-team All-American and the Big Eight Athlete of the Year.

He recorded 140 tackles in his career with 36 TFLs and 25 sacks. A first-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in the 1987 NFL Draft, the elder Noonan went on to play in 73 games in his six-year NFL career.

Maverick Noonan played his high school football at Elkhorn South in Omaha. Was a two-time All-Nebraska member, and picked the Huskers in high school over offers from Iowa, Stanford, Michigan State and Arizona State.
