One injured after crash in South Omaha Monday morning
One person is injured after a crash Monday morning in South Omaha.
Emergency crews responded to the crash near 60th and V streets just after 5:30 a.m. Monday.
Police dispatch confirmed the status of the injured person with First Alert 6.
Drivers should avoid the area as crews clean up and investigate.
Police identify body found in Millard dumpster
The Omaha Police Department is investigating after a man’s body was found in a dumpster Saturday afternoon.
According to an OPD statement, police were called to a dumpster near 136th Street and Discovery Drive at about 4:40 p.m. Saturday.
When emergency crews got to the scene, they pronounced the man dead.
On Sunday, OPD reported the man had been identified as Cord Trout, 47, of Omaha. The investigation is ongoing.
1 left in critical condition from fire in Omaha’s Blackstone District
Omaha firefighters responded to a fire Saturday night that left one person in the hospital in critical condition.
Crews were called to the fire in a “multi-family dwelling” 38th Avenue and Jackson Street shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday.
Firefighters brought the fire under control in about 10 minutes. While searching the home, one occupant was rescued and taken to the hospital in critical condition, a release states.
Ten occupants were displaced due to the damage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Smoke detectors were in the home and alerted the residents, per OFD.
West Omaha crash knocks out power for hundreds
More than 500 people did not have power in West Omaha early Sunday after a car struck a power pole.
The crash happened just before 1:30 a.m. Sunday near 120th and Blondo Streets.
According to dispatchers, no one was taken to a hospital. The car ended up flipped over on its side.
By the looks of OPPD’s power outage map, it appears the outage has been completely resolved.
Voter deadlines in Valley City Council special election approaching
On Monday, ballots in the the upcoming 2026 Valley Special City Council Election will begin to be mailed to voters.
In a release, officials shared that Monday, Dec. 29 at midnight is the deadline to register online, by mail, or in-person at most locations. You can register at DMV offices, state agencies, Omaha Public Library locations, or deputy registrars.
If you miss this date, your last chance to register is in-person at the Douglas County Election Commission until 6 p.m. on Jan. 2, the release states.
The Election Commission will close at noon Wednesday and will remain closed Thursday for the Christmas holiday. It will also be closed on Jan. 1 — New Year’s Day, the release reads.
Voters have until Jan. 13 at 5 p.m. to mail their ballots back to the Douglas County Election Commission or put it in a ballot drop box. The election is being held after residents voted to recall the mayor and city council president in November.
Omaha restaurant offering food pantry for families in need Monday
After collecting donations over the weekend, an Omaha restaurant is giving back to the community Monday.
Javi’s Tacos is offering families food pick-up times from their pantry Monday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Tuesday from 4-7 p.m.
The food pantry is at the Frosty’s Ice Cream Shop across from the Javi’s location near 171st and Center.
“Every donation, big or small, makes a difference. Thank you for helping us spread kindness, warmth, and holiday cheer throughout our community,” a social media post reads.
