A new mural was unveiled in downtown Jackson Monday.Artist Chris Windfield painted the city’s newest public artwork at the corner of Lamar Street and Pascagoula Street across from the Jackson Convention Complex.’Sipp Culture funded the work through its TBD Fund, which is supported by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. The picture features a woman blindfolded, holding a wooden sword in one hand and a scale in the other.The newest piece is part of Windfield’s Magnolia Experience. He has painted murals around the city that incorporate the Magnolia flower and take spectators on a journey through the city.”With this mural, I also wanted to do a mural that complemented the business. You know, this is Sweet and Associates, so I wanted to do my take on Lady Justice through the perspective of a young Black girl, so that’s how I came up with this,” Windfield said. The new mural also features blueberries, which are Mississippi’s official state fruit.Windfield said he paints murals to “transform spaces to tell a story that can last in an area for decades.” He said the work “fully expresses his vision and creativity.” Windfield is a multimedia artist and Jackson native with degrees from Jackson State University and the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California. He has painted more than a dozen murals statewide.

A new mural was unveiled in downtown Jackson Monday.

Artist Chris Windfield painted the city’s newest public artwork at the corner of Lamar Street and Pascagoula Street across from the Jackson Convention Complex.

‘Sipp Culture funded the work through its TBD Fund, which is supported by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.

“With this mural, I also wanted to do a mural that complemented the business. You know, this is Sweet and Associates, so I wanted to do my take on Lady Justice through the perspective of a young Black girl, so that’s how I came up with this,” Windfield said.
