The details about Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer’s life with their son, Nick, 32, continue to trickle out. But there’s one thing that is evident — they loved their child despite his challenges.
With a reported 18 stints in rehab, per The New York Times, and struggles with addiction and mental health, the Reiners did everything they could to give Nick the life he deserved. Now, Rob Shuter’s Substack is reporting that he also had access to plenty of money, thanks to his mother and father.

“Nick was getting $10,000 a month from his mom and dad,” an insider claimed to Shuter. “He lived rent-free in the guest house, had food provided, and didn’t pay a single bill. Everything was taken care of.”
The Reiners believed that if Nick was “comfortable and supported,” it might help him focus on his health. Even with all of the incredible privileges afforded him, it wasn’t enough.

Nick was arrested on December 14 and charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the stabbing deaths of his parents. There is also a strong possibility that he will be cut off from Rob and Michele’s $200 million estate.
People spoke with Sean Weissbart, an estate and trusts attorney not associated with the case, who explained how an inheritance works after someone is convicted of murdering a family member.
“California has what’s called a slayer statute, which says if you kill someone that you’re going to inherit from, you lose your inheritance and any right to serve as a fiduciary of their estate. So assuming he’s convicted of this murder, he’s out as beneficiary, along with any fiduciary appointments he may have,” Weissbart explained.
The estate would be split between Nick’s siblings instead: Jake, 34, and Romy, 28, as well as his oldest sister, Tracy, 61, from Rob’s first marriage to the late Penny Marshall.
Nick remains on suicide watch while in solitary confinement at the Twin Towers Correction Facility in Los Angeles. He will be arraigned on January 7, 2026.
