Strong thunderstorm heading toward central L.A. County

Meteorologists say a strong thunderstorm is projected to hit central Los Angeles County this morning.

Potential hazards include wind gusts in excess of 50 mph that could knock down tree limbs and blow away unsecured objects.

The area of impact includes the communities of Long Beach, Inglewood, Torrance, Rancho Palos Verdes, Downtown Los Angeles, Culver City, Alhambra, Manhattan Beach, Los Alamitos, Rolling Hills, Redondo Beach, Carson, Port of Los Angeles, El Segundo, Artesia, Commerce, Montebello, Boyle Heights, Pico Rivera and Lynwood.

A flash flood warning is also in effect for southern Los Angeles County, and the heavy rain has the potential to cause rock and mud slides.

The communities covered by the flood warning include Long Beach, Downtown L.A., Inglewood, Alhambra, Torrance, Culver City, Hollywood, Griffith Park, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, Whittier, Redondo Beach, Beverly Hills, Pasadena, Venice, Rancho Palos Verdes, Santa Monica and West Covina.

Forecasters say the storm may continue to intensify, so they recommend residents pay attention to local weather updates, news outlets, television broadcast and radio stations for up-to-date information.
