ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — The Ithaca Police Department says a man was getting death threats.

 “The subject was known to officers. Members of the Ithaca-Tompkins County Negotiation Team engaged with the individual to assess his health and welfare. He agreed to meet officers at Upper Buttermilk Falls Park but communication became sporadic thereafter. For his safety and the safety of others, members of the Ithaca-Tompkins Response Team safely took him into custody,” Chief Tom Kelly said in a statement released Thursday night.

Kelly added some resources for addressing mental health needs:
