Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has sent a message of support to Tyrell Malacia after the full-back made his first appearance for the club since the start of the year.
Malacia came off the bench for United in their 1-0 Boxing Day win over Newcastle United. He replaced Luke Shaw in the 88th minute and helped Ruben Amorim’s side hold onto a vital three points to move level on points with Chelsea in fifth.
The left-back spent the second half of last season on loan at PSV Eindhoven after being overlooked by Amorim. Having seemed sure to leave in the summer, he has been reintegrated into the United squad.

After being named on the bench for the last six games, Malacia made his long-awaited return at Old Trafford against Newcastle. Taking to social media, Malacia posted a series of images of himself from the game, with him quoting the bible verse Romans 8:18, which reads: “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”
Fernandes, who is currently unavailable for United after picking up a hamstring injury in the 2-1 loss to Aston Villa before Christmas, shared the post on his own Instagram story. He wrote: “You deserve this so much my friend.”
Bryan Mbeumo, Amad, Rasmus Hojlund, Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire, Senne Lammens, Altay Bayindir, Diogo Dalot and Leny Yoro liked the post. Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Antony commented on Malacia’s post, alongside international teammates Ian Maatsen and Justin Kluivert.

Amorim has previously praised Malacia’s work rate and desire to get himself back into the frame at United. “I love all my players,” he said in October. “I demand the same thing from all my players.
“He is working really well, he adapted really well to our team. For me, there are no favourites. If you work, you play for Manchester United. If you don’t, you need to work harder to get back on the pitch.”
The January transfer window opens next week, and Malacia is one of the names expected to be linked with a move.
Loans to Elche and Eyupspor collapsed in the summer before his integration.
