Florida State redshirt junior running back Gavin Sawchuk is leaving the program via the NCAA Transfer Portal after one season, per On3’s Hayes Fawcett. Sawchuk, who arrived at FSU after the spring via the NCAA Transfer Portal, was previously at Oklahoma for the first three seasons of his collegiate career.
The Littleton, Colo. native was FSU’s most regularly used back during the 2025 season. He was second on the team in rushing with 486 yards and eight rushing touchdowns on 109 carries, behind only quarterback Tommy Castellanos in those three categories. He did not eclipse 100 yards rushing in a game this season. His best performance was a 97-yard, two rushing touchdown showing against Kent State. He also had 13 receptions for 121 yards and a receiving touchdown.
Sawchuk started seven of 12 games for FSU.
Over three seasons at Oklahoma the 5-foot-11, 209-pound back appeared in 23 games with 11 starts. He rushed 176 times for 977 yards and 11 touchdowns over those three seasons.Â
His best season came at Oklahoma was in 2023 when he earned honorable mention All-Big 12 accolades with 744 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns over 12 games, including seven starts.
Sawchuk has one year of eligibility remaining.
The NCAA Transfer Portal window is January 2nd to January 16th for players to officially enter from the Division I ranks. Unlike past instances, there is just one transfer portal window in 2026.
