Arsenal missed out on a tempting free transfer in the summer, and the early signs suggest they might regret their decision.
The 2025 summer transfer window was a huge triumph for Andrea Berta in his first taste of the market as Arsenal’s sporting director.
Though some of Arsenal’s new signings have impressed more than others, the Italian answered Mikel Arteta’s plea, delivering a striker at long last.
Viktor Gyokeres has a lot to improve before his transfer can be filed as a success, particularly as a forward who was on Arsenal’s radar is outperforming him.

It wasn’t just Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko on Arsenal’s radar in the summer, as a familiar link did the rounds once again.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin was one to watch for Arsenal back in the summer of 2024, and the following year, he was available as a free agent.
Leeds United snapped the 28-year-old up, and now, the Englishman is in touching distance of a record shared by two Arsenal legends.

Arsenal’s longest scoring streak in the Premier League is seven, with Ian Wright, Thierry Henry and Emmanuel Adebayor completing the feat.
Right now, Calvert-Lewin is on six consecutive Premier League matches with a goal, meaning if he is to score against Liverpool, he’ll be level with the ex-Arsenal trio.
It’s an incredible show of form from the former Everton star, who might just have Arsenal wondering why they didn’t enter the frame to acquire his services.
Calvert-Lewin has been described as the perfect fit for Arsenal
In all honesty, it’s unsurprising that Arsenal didn’t attempt to sign the Leeds talisman in the summer, given that he scored only three times in the 2024/25 Premier League.
That being said, the talent and knack for scoring goals doesn’t go away, as we’re now seeing, with the Englishman having been viewed by many as a missing piece in Arteta’s squad over the years.

Paul Merson pleaded for Arsenal to sign Calvert-Lewin back in 2022, with links between the striker and the Gunners spanning over several seasons.
“Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a perfect fit for Arsenal, and they should break the bank to sign him next summer,” Merson said at the time.
Fast forward to now, and the Leeds star is one of the hottest strikers in the Premier League once more, still only 28 years old.
Could Arsenal make a move for Calvert-Lewin in the future, or has that ship sailed?
