WJZ First Alert Weather Day for strong winds remains in place tonight into Tuesday for Maryland.

Other than the wind, the weather will be pretty quiet in the week ahead, just on the colder side.

Gusty winds continue to blow across Maryland tonight

A High Wind Warning is in effect for Garrett and Allegany Counties through Tuesday afternoon. Winds gusts may surpass 70 MPH at mountain peaks and 60 MPH across lower elevations in these counties.

A Wind Advisory is in effect for the rest of the state tonight into Tuesday. The strongest gusts could cause some tree damage. Spotty to scattered power outages are possible.

Gusty winds continue into Tuesday. Tuesday begins with temperatures in the 20s. It’ll feel like it’s in the single digits to teens in most neighborhoods.  Winds will continue to gust 40 to 45 mph, especially early in the morning. We will feel the winds slowly subsiding through the day so afternoon gusts may only be in the 20 mph range.

High temperatures will peak in the low to mid-30s in many areas on Tuesday but with the winds, it’ll feel like the low to mid-20s at the warmest part of the day. Unlike Monday when temperatures fell through the afternoon, temperatures will peak in the afternoon.

Power outages across the area

BGE said thousands of customers lost power on Monday due to the wind gusts knocking down trees and tree limbs.

As of 9 p.m., service was restored for more than 14,500 customers. At that time, 10,000 customers were still without power.

The hardest hit areas were in Howard, Baltimore, and Anne Arundel counties.

More power outages are likely into Tuesday, a BGE spokesperson said.

New Year’s Eve Forecast

We keep breeziness in the forecast for New Year’s Eve on Wednesday.

Winds won’t be as strong as the previous two days. But, it’ll still be cold and breezy. Heading out to celebrate the arrival of the new year? Temperatures will be in the lower 30s around midnight in Baltimore and feel like the 20s. The weather will cooperate with outdoor celebrations to ring in 2026 – we’re forecasting partly cloudy conditions and dry weather on New Year’s Eve and early on New Year’s Day.

Another blast of cold air arrives as 2026 begins. Plan on a breezy Thursday, with temperatures struggling to reach freezing. A few snow showers are possible but accumulations aren’t looking likely for most neighborhoods.

A generally cold pattern remains through the first several days of the new year.
