The fire broke out early Tuesday morning
ON WLKY. THIS IS BREAKING NEWS. OH MY GOD, CLUCKERS IS ON FIRE. FIREFIGHTERS ON THE SCENE OF A MASSIVE FIRE IN JEFFERSONVILLE. IT HAPPENED EARLIER THIS MORNING AT CLUCKERS ON WEST RIVERSIDE DRIVE THAT IS NEAR THE RIVER STAGE IN DOWNTOWN JEFFERSONVILLE. THOSE FLAMES MASSIVE THIS MORNING. THANKFULLY, CREWS HAVE BEEN WORKING FOR HOURS NOW TO GET IT BACK UNDER CONTROL. SHAQ YOU’RE LIVE THERE THIS MORNING. YOU’VE BEEN OUT THERE. WHAT PROGRESS HAVE YOU SEEN MADE? YEAH, WE ACTUALLY JUST GOT AN UPDATE FROM JEFFERSONVILLE FIRE WITHIN THE PAST FEW MINUTES. AS WE WERE GETTING READY TO GET ON AIR. NOW YOU CAN SEE CREWS ARE STILL WORKING TO PUT OUT ANY REMAINING HOTSPOTS, AND WE’RE TOLD THERE COULD BE SOME FIRE UNDERNEATH THAT DEBRIS. AND THAT’S WHY THEY’VE BEEN CONTINUING TO POUR WATER ON THIS STRUCTURE. SO HERE IS WHAT WE KNOW OFFICIALLY FROM JEFFERSONVILLE FIRE AROUND 118 THIS MORNING. THEY GOT A CALL THAT THERE WAS A FIRE HERE AT THE CLUCKERS RESTAURANT IN DOWNTOWN JEFFERSONVILLE ON WEST RIVERSIDE DRIVE AROUND 124. THAT’S WHEN THE FIRST CREW ARRIVED. NOW, THIS FIRE STARTED IN THE TRASH IN THE BACK OF THE BUILDING. AND AS SOON SPREAD TO THE ENTIRE STRUCTURE. NOW, THIS FIRE CAUSED THIS BUILDING TO COLLAPSE. NOW WE’RE TOLD THAT THE CONDITIONS CERTAINLY DID NOT HELP, ESPECIALLY THE BITTERLY COLD TEMPERATURES AND THE WIND AS WELL. CLARKSVILLE FIRE, ALONG WITH NEW ALBANY FIRE, ASSISTED IN THIS, PUTTING OUT THESE FLAMES HERE AT THIS RESTAURANT. AND IT TOOK SEVERAL HOURS. THE GOOD NEWS HERE, THOUGH, THIS FIRE DID NOT SPREAD TO ANY OF THE NEARBY STRUCTURES. ALSO, NO ONE WAS INJURED. THE BIG QUESTION THIS MORNING, THOUGH, HOW DID THIS FIRE GET STARTED? THAT’S SOMETHING THEY WILL CONTINUE TO KEEP INVESTIGATING. BUT FOR RIGHT NOW THEY WILL CONTINUE TO KEEP POURING WATER ON THIS STRUCTURE TO MAKE SURE ANY REMAINING HOTSPOTS ARE PUT OUT. BUT OF COURSE, WE’RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO KEEP MONITORING THIS FIRE HERE AT THE RESTAURANT IN DOWNTOWN JEFFERSONVILLE AND BRING YOU ANY NEW UPDATES AS WE GET THEM IN REPORTING LIVE THIS MORNING. A massive fire erupted early Tuesday morning at Cluckers on W. Riverside Drive in Jeffersonville.The fire broke out at the restaurant, near the River Stage, sending heavy flames and smoke into the air. Video from the scene shows firefighters working to control the blaze.Firefighters thought the fire started in a dumpster in the back of the building. Later, firefighters said they never located a dumpster, so they are not sure of the fire’s origin.It appears the building has at least partially collapsed. Just before 9 a.m., an excavator took to the roof and knocked the rest of the restaurant down.At this time, no injuries have been reported. Firefighters said no one was inside at the time.They also don’t believe the fire was suspicious.
