WASHINGTON, DC — In the biggest Logan Thompson news of the day, the Capitals’ starting goaltender has chosen a goal song.
Thompson, now playing his second season in Washington, has selected Olivia Dean’s pop hit “Man I Need” for his signature tune, as shown on the Capital One Arena scoreboard during warmups on Wednesday.
Capitals players have been able to choose their own goal songs since the 2019-20 season, but Thompson had thus far gone without one. Meanwhile, Thompson’s goaltending partner Charlie Lindgren has long had Toby Keith’s “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” as his pick.

Over the NHL’s 108-year history, just 17 goaltenders have scored a goal. No Capitals goaltender has yet joined that club, though the Caps were on the wrong end of a Ron Hextall playoff goal for the Philadelphia Flyers on April 11, 1989.
Thompson has been one of the Capitals’ best players this season, with a league-leading 22.9 goals saved above expected, a .915 save percentage, and a 2.33 goals-against average. He and teammate Tom Wilson (who made the excellent choice of “Boom” by Tiesto as his celebratory song) were both named to Team Canada’s Olympic roster on Wednesday afternoon.
