Rob Gronkowski said he’s “technically” never spent any of the money he made playing in the NFL.
The 36-year-old former NFL star, who was drafted in 2010 and retired in 2022, was asked about the “rumored” claim that he’s never dipped into his NFL salary during an appearance on the Bussin’ with the Boys podcast released on Tuesday, Dec. 30.
Gronkowski said the claim is “technically” true and shared that his financial discipline stemmed from the first $50,000 bonus given to him by his agent Drew Rosenhaus. “You’ve got to pay him back over the time, the first 50 grand you made,” Gronkowski explained.
“I actually took that 50 grand and I bought me a car, I paid for my spot up in New England, actually, with it.”

The former tight end, who won four Super Bowls alongside Tom Brady, said he’s “very frugal” during the podcast appearance, noting that he “lived with a roommate” even while playing in the NFL.
“I didn’t know how long the NFL was gonna last,” Gronkowski continued. “I was a second round pick, so it was like a four-year, $4 million deal, and I was like, if I can play this contract out, I’ll be set for life.”
Gronkowski said he felt comfortable with his first contract because even if he never became “the player that I think I can be,” he’d still feel “set for life because two million in the bank is set for life to me.”
“I just always wanted to save it, and I just used my money that I was getting off the field to just spend it on whatever I needed to spend it on. Technically, I have not spent any of my NFL money.”
Since his retirement from football, Gronkowski made the transition into the broadcast booth at Fox Sports, joining Brady and their former Patriots co-star Julian Edelman.
In his personal life, the former tight end has been dating model Camille Kostek. In February, Kostek, 33, said her beau is “so busy” after he “stepped into this next chapter of his life” during an interview with Fox News Digital.
“We’re always finding something to challenge us,” Kostek added. “We’re always keeping busy, but it’s fun. Running around, city to city, doing all of our things and getting to come together.”
