RHINEBECK–Rhinebeck Fire Department deployed the Jaws-of-Life extrication tool to free passengers from a serious head-on crash that closed Route 9G.
Two patients received CPR from first responders from several local agencies. A request for a medivac helicopter from Hackensack, New Jersey was cancelled by Village of Rhinebeck Fire Chief Bryant Knapp as both patients were loaded into ambulances waiting at the scene.
The force of the collision pushed both vehicles to opposite sides of 9G. A third vehicle with less damage was towed from the scene.
Two firefighters were treated at the scene following the crash for what appeared to be minor issues coming in contact with sharp objects and other matters requiring decontamination.
The crash is under investigation by Dutchess County Sheriff Department. Sheriff Kirk Imperiati told Mid-Hudson News that his department would soon issue a news release once the victims were identified.
First responders from Rhinebeck, Rhinecliff, Red Hook, Tivoli, Empress Ambulance and the New York State Police assisted at the scene.
